Jennifer Trotti

Passionate about Protecting Clients

Jennifer is an Indigenous lawyer who began working with her father Samuel D. Stevens, the founder of Stevens & Company in 2009. Since joining Stevens & Company she has been working with survivors of Indigenous Class Actions including the Independent Assessment Process (Indian Residential School Hearings), Federal Indian Day School Class Action, and Indian Boarding Home Program Claims Process. In addition to assisting class action survivors, she also provides legal services in the area of Aboriginal law, employment law and human rights law. Over the last 15 years, Jennifer has conducted more than 500 trauma-informed and culturally sensitive interviews and investigations by establishing trust through respect and creating a physically and psychologically safe environment for individuals that minimizes re-traumatization and pain.

Jennifer’s legal services have been predominantly delivered to Indigenous peoples, Indigenous organizations and First Nations in all aspects of governance and laws. She has worked at the grass roots level in the band offices before becoming a practicing lawyer and eventually the owner of the family firm and a practicing lawyer and has a deep understanding of their complexities and challenges.

Jennifer brings an innate sense of personal integrity and profound dedication to her clients. Even though Jennifer is always ‘on’ as a lawyer, she speaks carefully and uses plain language so clients can understand and make decisions with confidence.

When clients are moving through a serious employment matter often for the first time, Jennifer is more than ready to personally handle high-conflict challenges in a constructive manner on their behalf; or she provides advice for appropriate and protective strategies to be put in place so clients themselves can deal with an immediate issue.
